How to diagnose the source of a leaking toilet? This task is fairly simple, there's three or four possible location where the leak will come from.

The leaking might be between the toilet tank bowl and the tank, between the supply line and the tank or between the floor and the toilet base and, maybe between the supply line and the angle stop valve.

The best way to determine the source of the leak is to do the following:

Dry the floor around the toilet, dry around the tank and bowl, dry around the supply and the tank and the angle stop valve.

Once everything is dry, put several pieces of paper towel around the toilet base, under the angle stop valve and under the tank if possible.

Then Flush the toilet once and, with a flashlight carefully inspect everything slowly, as you flush the toilet, you should be able to determine if water is coming through the base, as the tank is filling up, you should be able to determine if the water is coming from between the tank and bowl and the same applies to the angle stop valve and the supply line.
